In the Zone Portland Storm Volume 7 Catherine Gayle Books
I am not a fan of hockey and I rarely read contemporary romances so it is a rare occasion that I would pick up this book. I don't even know why I did but I am glad I read it. Keith Burns is looking on Craigslist for a one-night stand while he is out-of-town at a friends wedding. Bianna Hayden is looking for a confidence booster to help her get over her low self image since she gained weight.Brie is a ballroom dancer/instructor who gained weight due to a thyroid issue. Unfortunately, her partner, Val, isn't very understanding of her health issues. He is verbally abusive and has a way of making her feel small and unworthy. This part of the story touched so close to home for me that I couldn't help continuing to read and hope for the best. Keith meets Brie anonymously for their one-night-stand but he sees something in her and wishes he had gotten her information.
Month's later the hockey season is back in full swing and Keith decides to attend a dance class with his teammate (who is using the class to build core strength). Surprise - guess who the teacher is! Thus begins their rocky relationship. He sees her as a beautiful, intelligent woman and she only can see the fat. Keith's kindness and patience are heartwarming.
As someone who has been through some of the things that Brie is facing I couldn't stop reading. I will admit, I did skim over some of the hockey parts but overall, the book was worth reading

In the Zone Portland Storm Volume 7 Catherine Gayle Books Reviews
The Portland Storm has become family to me and their books are considered as "must haves". In the Zone is Keith Burns' aka Burnzie story and it begins with one great night of pleasure with a stranger whom Burnzie cannot forget, especially when he comes face-to-face with his mysterious stranger, Brianna Hayden - Brie - quite unexpectedly when boredom sends him to the dance studio she teaches.
I have followed Ms. Gayle's profile on facebook and have got to know her a bit, thus I feel that this book was really written from experience. Brie's thoughts and beliefs were probably on a parallel to Ms. Gayle's and in all honesty I found this so touching.
Warning bad language and sexual content included.
Keith "Burnzie" Burns has been made out to be the player of the team - the one that just wants to have a good time and isn't interested in more than that. This book proves he's so much more than that!! And Brie is a perfect addition to the "Hockey Wives" club! This story was so well told and really focused on helping Brie improve her self-image and the way that he accomplished that melted my heart and made me a forever fan of him!!!
This "book," if you can even call it that without offending actual books, is so sh*t. The whole premise is that the main male character is "not like other guys." He's caring and sensitive and loves gays and women. And he'll tell you all about it. It sounds like a teenage girl protagonist in, what's supposed to be, a full grown man's body. And the woman is naturally "curvy" and "gorgeous," but she thinks she's fat and hideous and the girl/man, rich, handsome, loves all shapes NFL football star is here to save this women's entire self worth. He worships her body and constantly tells us all the hate he has for the ex that destroyed her self esteem by calling her fat because now she just can't think she's pretty ever again, but she is. She's so beautiful in all her curvy glory. He's here to help her see that!
The majority of this book is just pages and pages of explanations about nothing. There's so much unnecessary description about background nonsense. Save yourself some life and spend it reading a book that doesn't make you wish you could tear parts of your brain out to unread this drivel.
Wow! Everytime I think it can't get any better, Catherine Gayle goes and proves me wrong. I simply couldn't put this book down, it was just that good.. Her mad writing skills astounds me. The dialogue between her characters is always so spot on. But what I really love most about this series is that, Catherine Gayle writes about real people with real issues, and not one person in this series has been without their own set of problems, or their own faults. Another thing..... once a book is finished, we don't just say goodbye to the characters. No... we get to go back and revisit them over and over again, even if it's only briefly. Her characters just have a way of grabbing a hold of you, and they won't let go. That's why it's so nice to be able to go back catch up with all of them so often. And while every book is based soley on two main characters, there is always several sub-plots going on around them, which seems to enhance these stories all the more.
In the previous books...I always wondered why Keith chose a big place like that to live in, in the first place. Or why he chose to live in that big mansion all alone, instead of renting out a room to one of his teammates. He never really had any real close friends or any of his family members come there to visit him. His teammates, yes.... but only when he was throwing a party. But he never seemed to have any family or friends just drop by to visit. I always thought that was sort of odd. I knew there was probably a good hidden story there just waiting to be told. And what a great story it was, too. Now after having read this book... I don't have to keep wondering, anymore. His back story was so heart-breaking. I felt so bad for him, I wanted to cry.
Brie is new to this whole cast of characters we've come to know and love, but I loved her right off the bat. She was a major ballroom dancer who is suddenly diagnosed with a severe thyroid problem that suddenly makes her weight go out of control, and it also had an affected her eyesight, too. Her ex-dancing partner/boyfriend was a real ass. He treated her so badly, and verbally abused her beyond belief. But that wasn't all. He goes and cheats on her, and then dumps her because of something that was completely out of her control. Needless to say; she's feeling pretty bad about herself, which makes her become very depressed.
I loved the way these two supported each other, and then subsequiently helped each other throughout their long drawn out healing process.
Off to read the next installment, and I can't wait to see what this series holds for all of us next!
